On Thursday, March 24, the largest Canadian city of Toronto hosted the Crimean Tatar charity event organized by the Canadian Association of Crimean Tatars. The event was attended by over 300 guests.

Local talents presented their performances. The viewers were also shown "Who are the Crimean Tatars?" film.  Bright costumes, virtuoso violin concerto by Eskender Bekmambetov, Haytarma by Elvira Saale and Tamilla Useinova were only a small part of the festive program.

The guests enjoyed the hospitality of the organizers, as well as abundance of the Crimean Tatar traditional dishes.

According to Rustem Irsaev, the event organizer and head of the Canadian Association of Crimean Tatars, "the interaction of Ukrainian and Turkish communities of the Crimean Tatars is more important than ever today."

“Today our Association signed a memorandum of cooperation with the League of Ukrainian Canadians. We are optimistic about the future and look forward to the results of this cooperation,” he said.

The Consuls General of Ukraine and Turkey delivered their speeches to the event participants, stressing the illegality of the referendum held in Crimea in 2014 and urging the international community to help Ukraine  to return Crimea.

Funds raised at the event will be transferred to the account of the ATR TV channel fund. Guests willingly donated money to save the only Crimean Tatar TV channel. Many of them pledged to continue supporting the initiatives of the Crimean Tatar Association.
