Azov: Elections in Donbas must be held under Ukrainian law

Azov regiment demands the Parliament to stop the adoption of criminal laws on elections in Donbas.

Soldiers of Azov regiment came to the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) holding lighted flares, a QHA journalist reports.

“It is impossible to stop the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of criminal laws without social resistance. Our task today is to show the power of community to ensure that such laws on elections in the occupied territories of Donbas are not adopted. Our main mission and task is to prevent the adoption of laws favorable to Putin,” said Ukrainian MP Oleg Petrenko.

The requirements of Azov regiment are: the exchange of prisoners, withdrawal of Russian troops from Donbas, holding elections in Donbas only under Ukrainian laws. Moreover, the activists say the elections should be conducted only after regaining control over the state border of Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian MP Andriy Biletskiy, about 10 thousand Azov activists gathered outside the Verkhovna Rada, for the time being. Traffic on Hrushevskogo Street is blocked.

It was reported earlier that the activist protest against holding elections in Donbas before the restoration of the official border of Ukraine.
