The only Crimean Tatar television channel in the world ATR is launching an ongoing marathon under the title “Don’t Kill ATR!”, amid the channel is forced to stop broadcasting April 1.

The marathon is beginning today at 18.00 on and from then on from 12.00 to 21.30 every evening until March 31.

Russia’s media watchdog Roskomnadzor has three times denied ATR the license to operate in Crimea. Crimean Tatar channel for children LALE as well as Crimean Tatar only radio station Meydan, may be forced off the air.

ATR has appealed to Russian politicians, including to the President Vladimir Putin to ensure that the channel is not driven out of Crimea, while Crimean head Sergey Aksyonov openly stated last week that those who “incite conflict” and give people hope that Crimea will be back to Ukraine would not operate in the region.

It should be noted that Crimean News Agency has also been denied a license to operate in Crimea.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has come out in defense of Crimean Tatar media and expressed “alarm at the deteriorating media climate in Crimea”.
