Having occupied Crimea, Russia thus has got an advantage in the Black Sea region, said Glen Grant, an Associate Professor of the Center for Civil-Military Relations, Naval School of Postgraduate Studies, Monterey, USA, during the international conference "Militarization of Occupied Crimea as a Threat to the International Security."
- It was and it is strategically important for Russia to get control over Crimea. Russia doesn’t have many outlets to the Black Sea except Crimean coast line and part of the Sea of Azov. Crimea is Russia's first step towards the access to the warm seas. Annexation of Crimea has given Russia an advantage in the Black Sea region.
