KIEV (QHA) -

The Gopak portable assault rifle, launched by Ukroboronprom at the Weapons and Security 2015 international arms exhibition, is expected to be adopted by the Ukrainian Army after testing.

Developed by Mayak Ltd, the assault rifle is referred to by experts as a slightly tuned-up version of an AK machine gun. Featuring a 7.62х39 caliber and weighing less than 5 kilos, Gopak 61 is barely distinguishable from the AK assault rifle. Gopak has a fire rate of 30 rounds per minute and can be equipped with a silencer.

Though producing small arms since 2008, Mayak Ltd has nevertheless failed to come up with something more impressive than this. Its closest rival, an automatic assault rifle produced by Fort Company, has far better specifications due to using modern ammo and being compliant with NATO standards.
