Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree on the resignation of the prime minister and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the presidential press service has reported, according to Ukrinform.
"The Ukrainian president has accepted the resignation of Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Yanovych Azarov, satisfying his letter of resignation. Since the resignation of the Ukrainian prime minister results in the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine under Article 115 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Ukrainian president has also accepted the resignation of the state's government," reads the statement.
The head of state, in accordance with Part 5, Article 115 of the Constitution of Ukraine, instructed the government to continue to perform its duties until the beginning of the work of a newly formed cabinet.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov resigned on January 28.
As reported mass protest took place in Kyiv over government’s decision to suspend signing of EU deal and straightening ties with Russia. Protests turned to violent clashes between activists and police; at least 5 died, hundreds were injured. The key demand of the protesters was resignation of the Ukrainian government and the President Viktor Yanukovych.
Protests also spread to Ukraine's regions with demonstrators seizing control of administrative buildings and, in some cases, forcing governors, who are appointed by President Viktor Yanukovych, to resign.
