ANKARA (QHA) -

President of the World Congress of Ukrainians Yevhen Choliy urged the Turkish authorities to protect the rights of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea. He made a relevant statement in an exclusive interview to QHA correspondent in Ankara, where he arrived with a working visit.

Choliy urged the Turkish authorities to continue support for Ukraine in the defending of territorial integrity.

"We call for assistance to Ukraine and protecting the rights of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars in the Crimea," he said.

Choliy noted that among the purposes of his visit is to ensure the broadcasting of Ukrainian TV channels in Turkey. He also called on Turkey to join the 17 countries of the world that recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

The President of the World Congress of Ukrainians at a meeting with representatives of the Turkish authorities also voiced the idea of recognizing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate as a single local church in Ukraine.

Touching upon the activity of the Ukrainian diaspora in Turkey, he noted that he had the opportunity to speak with its representatives in Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya, and noted its activity.

"Our main goal is to help Ukraine protect its territorial integrity, help the country in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration, fight Russian information propaganda and defend the rights of Ukrainians around the world.”

Earlier, the World Congress of Ukrainians condemned the illegal election of the Russian president in the occupied territory of the Crimea. The Congress welcomed the reaction of the European Union, which did not recognize the Russian elections in the occupied Ukrainian Crimea.
