KYIV (QHA) -

As part of the seventh session of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars a statement was issued regarding the recent arrests of lawyers  Emil Kurbedinov and Nikolai Polozov who defend the interests and rights of the Crimean Tatars in the courts, initiated by the occupation regime.

The agency QHA provides the text of the document:

“Detentions and arrests of lawyers Emil Kurbedinov and Nikolai Polozov who defend our people in the puppet courts on cases against the Crimean Tatars, resisting the occupation regime, is an obvious attack on the right to protection, which is considered sacred in any legal system.

This attack of invaders on the justice is a mockery of the Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which regulates the right to a fair trial, and on Articles 6-11 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Russian Federation has once again flouted the two most important documents of mankind. These detentions and arrests have once again proved to the world that the principles of immunity and inviolability of lawyers who are entitled to the protection of law, no longer exist in the occupied Crimea.

The World Congress of the Crimean Tatars again strongly condemns the arrest of Seyran Saliev and illegal actions of the occupation regime against lawyers Emil Kurbedinov and Nikolai Polozov who demonstrate courage and heroism defending our people.”

Earlier QHA reported that in the morning of January 25, lawyer Nikolai Polozov was illegally detained in Simferopol by the FSB officers and taken for questioning as a witness in the Ilmi Umerov case . The lawyer regards the actions of the invaders as kidnapping.

Lawyer Emil Kurbedinov was arrested in the morning of January 26 and charged with an offense under Article 20.3 of the RF Administrative Code (Propaganda or public display of Nazi paraphernalia or symbols, or paraphernalia or symbols of extremist organizations, or other paraphernalia or symbols, propaganda or public demonstration of which is prohibited by federal law) for the publication of in the social network of 2013. Kurbedinov pleaded guilty in part, noting that he posted the publication, but was not engaged in propaganda he is charged with. The court found him guilty and arrested for 10 days.

FSB raided the home of national movement veteran Zodie Salieva and her son Seyran in Bakhchisarai. Seyran Saliev was taken to the "court". He was charged under Article 20.29 of the Administrative Code of Russia - Distributing of extremist materials, and Article 20.3 of the Administrative Code of Russia - Propaganda or public demonstration of Nazi paraphernalia or symbols, or paraphernalia or symbols of extremist organizations.
