KYIV (QHA) -

The invaders want to rename the Crimea, in order to somehow erase and remove Crimean Tatars from its history. This was stated by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, historian Volodymyr Vyatrovich.

“Actually, I cannot imagine how such a renaming of the Crimea can be carried out, because it is a question of renaming the peninsula, that is, changing a geographical name," he said.

According to him, it is unlikely to be perceived in the world and in Ukraine, because "the local authorities do not have any legitimacy for such steps on the territory of the Crimea, part of the Ukrainian state."

Earlier it was reported that the head of the national and cultural autonomy of the Greeks of Crimea, Ivan Shonus, had put forward the initiative to rename the peninsula into Tavrida. The Greeks have already forwarded an official letter to the "relevant authorities".
