The US authorities have approved the decision of the DPR and LPR (Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics) to postpone the local elections, RIA Novosti reports citing Mark Toner, State Department spokesman, as saying.

“The United States welcomes the decision of the Russian-backed separatists to postpone next illegal local elections in the eastern Ukraine. The residents of the region deserve to have elections carried out according to Ukrainian legislation, international standards, and under OSCE supervision, as stipulated in Minsk agreement,” Mark Toner said.

Moreover, the State Department spokesman said that Washington approves the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the conflict area.
