WASHINGTON (QHA) -

The visit of the heads of Russian special services to the United States became possible due to the fact that the American administration had temporarily suspended sanctions against them, the speaker of the US State Department Heather Nauert reported.

"I can tell you in a general - in a general matter, if something is considered to be in the national security interest of the United States, just like other countries, we have the ability to waive that [sanctions] so that people can come in to the United States," she said.

Nauert further noted that the visit of director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia Sergey Naryshkin, the head of the FSB Aleksandr Bortnikov and the chief the Russian General Staff’s Main Intelligence Directorate Igor Korobov
was connected with the discussion on issues of joint efforts in anti-terrorist activities.

Earlier, the heads of the three main intelligence services of the Russian Federation visited Washington against the backdrop of tensions in Russian-American relations.

On January 30, the Russian ambassador to the United States stated that the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia Sergey Naryshkin who is under US sanctions, went to Washington for consultations on the terrorism issues.
