Former commander of the US and NATO forces in Europe Philip Breedlove was one of the speakers at the panel "Base Saving: Reassessment of US military units in Turkey after the coup attempt." The importance and future of the Turkish military base Incirlik were discussed at the panel meeting.
Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) made a report on possible alternatives to the Incirlik air base. In particular, the option of using military bases in such countries as Jordan, Cyprus and Northern Iraq was discussed as well.

In his speech, Breedlove stressed that Turkey was in a difficult situation in terms of security due to the developments in the neighboring country, Syria. Nevertheless, Turkey has been and remains an important strategic partner of the United States. And the Turkish military base Incirlik remains indispensable for the US Armed Forces and the Air Force.
