The US is concerned about the effectiveness of Kyiv's fight against corruption in the light of the recent "arrest of employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the confiscation of a number of confidential documents of NABU", Heather Nauert, the Head of the Press Office of the United States Department reported on Monday, December,4.
According to Nauert, "these actions seem to be part of efforts to undermine the independent anti-corruption institutions assisted by the US and other countries". The spokesman of the State Department warned that due to such incidents, "public loses its confidence" to Kyiv and a threat to "international support for Ukraine" arises.
Nauert, also noted the words of Rex Tillerson, the Head of the US foreign policy, who said that “It serves no purpose for Ukraine to fight for its body in Donbas if it loses its soul to corruption. Anti-corruption institutions must be supported, resourced, and defended,” warned the head of the press service of the State Department.
In late November, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General's Office detained a NABU detective, who tried to provoke a bribe to one of the heads of the State Migration Service. This event crowned a chain of mutual accusations, which the security agencies of the country have exchanged for a long time.
Reportedly, the Administration of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine is not represented in the United States at the Global Forum on asset recovery, which is dedicated to Ukraine among other things.
