The Permanent Mission of the United States in the OSCE appealed to the Heads of several structures of the organization, insisting on the need to monitor the trial of Ukrainian journalist Nikolai Semena in the Crimea, according to "European truth".

Thus, February 15 the Acting Head of the US diplomatic mission Kate Marie Byrnes sent a letter to the Head of the OSCE SMM Ertugrul Apakan, Director of the OSCE ODIHR Michael Georg Link and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic.

“We call upon you as Heads of the OSCE mission, responsible for monitoring the human rights situation in Ukraine, and institutions that focus on human rights and fundamental freedoms, to coordinate efforts and to monitor the trial against Mr. Semena,” the representative of the United States said.

The document, representing the position of the US, also noted that "the Russian occupying power" made the allegations against Semena and the journalist is known for his article "criticizing the actual Crimean government and the Russian occupation."

April 19, 2016 the ex-"Prosecutor" of the Crimea Natalia Poklonskaya opened a criminal case on charges of separatism against the journalist Nikolai Semena for articles he published.

On April 28, after questioning and searches, he received the status of a suspect. However, Semena denies the allegations of the occupation authorities.

December 7th journalist Nikolai Semena, accused by Russian Federation of "separatism", was brought a final version of charge in 6 volumes.

January 20, 2017 the staff of invaders-ontrolled Crimean law enforcement agencies in Simferopol presented the indictment to journalist Nikolai Semenav. He faces up to five years in prison for "incitement to separatism" in the Russian Federation.
