WASHINGTON (QHA) -

The official representative of the US State Department John Kirby does not quite understand what the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu meant speaking about the situation in Syria.

At the press conference in Washington Kirby commented on Shoigu’s statement on the deferral of a peaceful political process in Syria for an indefinite period, stressing that Washington's position regarding Assad remains unchanged:

“For us Assad's part of the Syrian future is unwanted. It is not clear what the Russian minister wanted to say, but we do not think that the negotiations will be postponed for an indefinite period, as Moscow stated."

The United States, in turn, will continue to work towards the resumption of the negotiations between the Assad regime and the Syrian opposition.

At a conference the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the beginning of the political peace process in the war-torn Syria is indefinitely postponed and peace will not come to Syria for a long time
