On Thursday, at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna, the US representative to the Organization, Ambassador Daniel Baer said that the United States is concerned about the deterioration of the situation in Crimea, reports Ukrinform.
“Russia's actions have led to the terrible situation in the occupied Crimea, with the ongoing disgraceful treatment of the members of the Crimean Tatar society,” said the US diplomat.
He also recalled the disappearance of Islyam Dzhepparov and Dzhevdet Islyamov.
“These are only two cases of more than a dozen documented disappearances since the beginning of the occupation. We call on the occupying authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said the representative of the United States.
Another issue of concern is the latest news about the "occupying power that puts pressure on the children of the detained Crimean Tatar activist Amir-Usein Kuku, forcing them to declare against their father, which can be used to deprive him of his parental rights."
Moreover, Baer called the message about "anti-extremist" department of the Russian FSB who introduces massive interrogations of the Mejlis members quite "disturbing" .
“Against the backdrop of the latest comments of the occupying power, comparing the Mejlis with ISIL, these statements cause concern about a possible new wave of repression following the recent decision of the Russian court to introduce the current unreasonable determination of the Mejlis as "extremist" organization,” Baer said.
In closing, the representative of the United States once again stressed that sanctions against Russia related to the annexation of Crimea will be saved until the peninsula is returned under the control of Ukraine.
“We as well subscribe to the EU that our sanctions against Russia, imposed for its aggression in the East of Ukraine, will remain valid until Russia fully implements its commitments under the Minsk agreements,” said the US representative to the OSCE.
