The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will open in New York (USA) today, April 16.

Crimean Tatars are represented at the event by the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz, the member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, the director of the news agency QHA ("Crimean News") and Hayat Radio Gayana Yuksel, as well as the lawyer Suleiman Mamutov, and the employee of the ATR television channel Elmaz Asanova.

The delegation of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will hold a side event under the auspices of Ukraine's permanent mission to the UN, dedicated to the temporarily occupied Crimea at 14:00 in New York.

The USA Representative of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Ayla Bakkalli will be the moderator of the side event.

In particular, Akhtem Chiygoz will tell the participants of the event about the current situation in the occupied Crimea, Gayana Yuksel will speak about the situation with freedom of speech, Suleiman Mamutov is going to present the situation on the annexed peninsula in terms of violating the collective rights of the Crimean Tatars and violating the rights of the Crimean Tatars as an indigenous people.
