Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will monitor the situation on observance of human rights and freedoms in the occupied Crimea remotely, the Commissioner of Ukrainian President on Crimean Tatars Affairs posted on his Facebook page.
As noted, during his speech at the opening of the 33rd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein spoke about the intention to conduct remote surveillance, since the occupation authorities did not allow access for the observers to the peninsula.
“Therefore, we will continue to monitor the situation in Crimea remotely,” said Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein, at the same time stressing that the OHCHR will continue to publish "independent and impartial" information in their reports, 14 of which have already been published officially.
The 15th report will be released during the current HRC session running until September 30.
