The postwar global security system, in particular the UN Security Council is ineffective, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with the ABC.
"We have to realize we have to be absolutely frank and straightforward that the conflict in eastern Ukraine has demonstrated the ineffectiveness of the postwar global security system, including the Security Council of the United Nations. And it happened because one of the permanent members having veto is an aggressor”- he said.
Poroshenko’s statement comes as after the conflict in eats Ukraine began, Russia has used its veto right on all the Security Council decisions on Ukraine.
Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski once even said that Russia should be even denied this right during a voting on Ukraine.
However, according to Article 108 of the UN Charter, the country may be deprived of this right if 2/3 of the General Assembly as well as all members of the Security Council vote for it. Thus, Russia itself will have to vote for its denial of the veto right.
