Two conditions should be fulfilled for the UN department of peacekeeping operations to officially start preparations for deployment of "blue helmets" in Ukraine.
This has been stated by UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, commenting on possible dispatch of a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine, ITAR-TASS reports.
"The appropriate request from the country, as well as the mandate, approved by the Security Council, are needed. So far, we do not have any of the things" Haq said.
He also said that the Security Council was not holding any official discussions on this matter, but did not rule out that the issue of sending peacekeepers might have been discussed on an informal level.
As a reminder, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said earlier that the presidents of Russia, France and Germany would discuss on Friday deployment of a UN peacekeeping contingent in eastern Ukraine.
