NEW YORK (QHA) -

Ambassadors of the country-members to the UN Security Council called on the parties to the conflict in Donbas for an immediate ceasefire and the implementation of the Minsk Agreements.

The representative of France to the UN Security Council François Delattre stressed that Minsk Agreement remains the only way to a peaceful solution to the conflict. He was supported by the Ambassadors of Great Britain, the United States, Italy, China and other countries.

“The worrying upsurge in fighting was the effect of the Russian Federation’s military personnel standing side by side with separatists whom they had equipped, armed and trained,” Britain's UN Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said.

Rycroft went on saying that sanctions against Russia should not be removed until the full implementation of the Minsk agreements by Moscow and the return of the Crimea under the control of Ukraine.

The US Permanent Representative to the UN Nikki Haley demanded Russia to immediately stop the escalation of violence.

“United States continues to condemn and calls for an immediate end to the Russian Federation’s occupation of Crimea. Crimea is part of Ukraine. Our sanctions associated with the Crimea, will remain in place until that country returned control to Ukraine,” she said.

In turn, the Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin blamed Ukraine for the escalation of the conflict, saying that "Ukraine was trying for a military settlement." According to the Russian Representative, it is Ukraine who does not implement Minsk agreement.

“The essence of what is happening is quite obvious: Kyiv seeks to use the clashes it had itself triggered as a pretext to pull out of the Minsk Agreements,” Churkin spoke.

Earlier, Senator John McCain Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, sent a letter to President Donald Trump raising concerns about Russia’s recent attacks against Ukraine, and urging the President to provide the defensive lethal assistance the Ukrainian forces need to defend themselves "against further violations by Russia and its separatist proxies."
