SIMFEROPOL (QHA) -

Former head of Bakhchisaray rayon administration, deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov has been again summoned for questioning on the issue of Feb 26 pro-Ukrainian rally, Umerov wrote in Facebook.

Ilmi Umerov, recently elected Mejlis deputy head, was questioned on March 23 by the Investigative Committee’s ‘department for particularly important cases’ as a witness on the case of Feb 26 pro-Ukrainian rally, which took place more than a year ago in Simferopol.

Days after Umerov was questioned, Investigative Committee has summonsed first deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelal for questioning as a witness on the same case.

Deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz imprisoned since Jan 29 on charges laid under Russian law although pertaining to a demonstration held before Crimean unification with Russia.

Chiygoz is accused of “inciting interethnic hatred” during the rally of Feb 26, 2014, when thousands of Crimean Tatars gathered at the Crimean Parliament to show their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
