The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its indignation over the refusal of the Russian Supreme Court to reverse the verdict against Ukrainian film-maker Oleg Sentsov and activist Alexander Kolchenko, reads a statement released by the Ministry’s press service.
“The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stresses once again that the verdict of August 25, 2015 handed down by Russia’s North Caucasus District Military Court whereby Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko were sentenced to 20 and 10 years in a penal colony, respectively, was illegal and politically motivated,” the statement says.
The Foreign Ministry also demanded that Sentsov and Kolchenko be immediately released and returned to Ukraine.
It was reported earlier that a Russian military court refused to reverse a verdict against Sentsov and Kolchenko on May 30.
Just a reminder: Ukrainian film-maker Oleg Sentsov and activist Alexander Kolchenko were illegally arrested in Russian-occupied Crimea and later tried on fabricated charges of planning and organizing terrorist attacks.
Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while Kolchenko, as Sentsov’s alleged accomplice, was imprisoned for 10 years.
Nadezhda Savchenko’s lawyer Mark Feigin sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin urging him to free other Ukrainians, including Yuri Soloshenko, Gennady Afanasiev, Oleg Sentsov Alexander Kolchenko, Alexei Chirniy, Nikolai Karpyuk, Stanislav Klykh, Valentin Vygovskyy, Sergey Litvinov, Hayser Jemil, Alexander Kostenko and others, currently being held in Russian prisons.
