Kyiv (QHA) - Ukraine has called on leading international players to make maximally balanced steps on the Syrian conflict in order not to worsen “the already critical situation in this country,” - the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported according to Ukrinform.
“We urge the conflicting parties and the world's leading players to adhere to a maximally balanced and restrained position and avoid any steps that can worsen the already critical situation in this country,” reads the statement.
In May 2011, Ukraine stopped military cooperation with Syria, which is one of the ways to resolve the Syrian crisis. "We urge other states to follow the same responsible approach," the Foreign Ministry said.
According to Foreign Ministry, Ukraine is deeply concerned about the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria. “These actions are a flagrant violation of international law, especially the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction,” - the ministry said.
“Our country's position on the Syrian conflict has recently been reaffirmed by the Ukrainian president - we support a speedy end to bloodshed and advocate for settling the conflict exclusively by political and diplomatic means,”- reads the statement.
