Ukrainian Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing Crimean Tatars indigenous people of Crimea. 284 deputies voted for this decision.
The resolution guarantees the protection and realization of ethnic, cultural, language, religious and other rights of Crimean Tatars and other ethnic minorities in Ukraine.
The resolution recognizes Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people as a higher representative body of Crimean Tatar people.
Ukrainian Parliament instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to start the process of Ukraine’s joining the UN Declaration on the rights of indigenous people and develop bills which would define and reinforce the status of Crimean Tatar people as indigenous people of Ukraine.
