(QHA) -

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree expanding the upper limit of compulsory military draft age for male citizens from 25 to 27 years.

Ukrainian male citizens who are physically qualified for military service, over 18 years old and older, but who have not reached the age of 27, and who have no right for exemption from military service" will be conscripted.

To recall, Poroshenko Jan 14 signed a decree authorizing a three-stage mobilization in the country in 2015 mobilizing 50,000 servicemen to the frontline in eastern Ukraine.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who visited Ukraine Feb 5, said President Barack Obama would make a decision “soon” on whether the United States would provide lethal weapons to Ukraine to help it fight a Russian-backed military offensive by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.
