While on a working visit in Turkey, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Akexander Turchinov met with Turkish NSC Secretary General Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu.
The two statesmen discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey in the security and defense sector in view of the challenges Ukraine and Turkey are currently facing. Turchinov and Hacımüftüoğlu also touched upon the subject of consolidating efforts in the fight against international terrorism, organized crime, and illegal migration, as well as coordination of the two countries’ law enforcement agencies.
According to Turchynov, Ukraine and Turkey have a unique opportunity to combine political, diplomatic, military, technical and economic resources for the efficient and coordinated response to the upsetting of the power equilibrium in the Black Sea region. According to Ukraine's NSDC Secretary, demilitarization and de-occupation of Crimea is an important step in this direction.
“Development of bilateral relations and cooperation between our countries should be brought to a whole new level," Turchynov said adding that broadening cooperation in the military and technical sphere was key to the development of Ukrainian-Turkish strategic partnership.
According to the Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Turkey, "our countries must play a leading role in creation of an efficient system of regional security".
"By combining potentials of our countries we can achieve greater synergy, which is critical for us," Seyfullah Hacımüftüoğlu said.
