LONDON (QHA) -

On Thursday, June 15, the Ukrainian delegation addressed the meeting of the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with a statement about the threats posed by illegal actions of the Russian Federation to navigation safety due to calls of ships to closed seaports of Ukraine in the Crimea and Sevastopol, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine press service.

“Strong protest was expressed over another armed provocation by the Russian Federation: The shelling of a transport aircraft of the Ukrainian Naval Forces An-26 near the Odessa gas field in the exclusive (maritime) economic zone of Ukraine on February 1, 2017," reads the message.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that after the statement was discussed by 19 delegations of the IMO member countries, including Australia, Great Britain, Germany, USA and France, the majority supported the position of the Ukrainian delegation and once again condemned the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia.

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine noted that allegations of the Russian delegation during the meeting on Ukraine accusing IMO of considering issues beyond the competence of the organization were not supported by foreign delegations.
