Ukraine calls on UN to condemn ban over Mejlis

The corresponding documents have been submitted to the Security Council and UN General Assembly.

During the open debates of the UN Security Council on April 14, the Ukrainian delegation raised the question of Russian repressions in Crimea due to a decision by the occupation authorities to suspend the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Vladimir Elchenko called on the Security Council and the UN Secretary General to condemn this criminal act violating the rights of the indigenous people of Crimea.

The day before, following the information on the next case of persecution of the Crimean Tatars by the occupation "Prosecutor's Office," the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN has brought the situation to the attention of the UN Security Council and issued a statement by the Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry as of April 13 as an official document of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly.
