Svyatoslav Tsegolko, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian President, posted a message in his Twitter account saying that Ukraine and Turkey will intensify efforts to protect Crimean Tatars in Crimea.
“Ukraine and Turkey will intensify efforts to protect Crimean Tatars in Russian occupied Crimea,” reads the message.
According to Tsegolko, Poroshenko called on the Turkish Parliament to recognize the 1944 deportation of Crimean Tatars an act of genocide.
As part of its 2-day visit, the Ukrainian delegation headed by Poroshenko has met with Ismail Kahraman, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly. Members of the delegation are also expected to have a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Akhmet Davutoglu.
Pyotr Poroshenko has also met with members of the Ukrainian expat community in Turkey.
During the delegation’s two-day visit, a fifth meeting of the High Level Strategic Council of Ukraine and Turkey is due to take place. The Ukrainian delegation is also expected to meet members of Turkish business circles.
