WASHINGTON (QHA) -

Sanctions will be imposed on six persons and five Russian companies, including Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and Main Intelligence Agency (GRU). The sanction list also includes the chief of the GRU General Staff Igor Korobov, GRU Deputy Chief Sergey Gizunov, and GRU First Deputies Vladimir Alexseyev and Igor Kostyukov. Alexey Belan and Evgeny Bogachev, suspected of hacker attacks, were also placed on the sanction list.

The decree states that the sanctions are linked to the "actions to undermine democracy in the U.S." and are introduced "to deal with the national emergency with respect to significant malicious cyber-enabled activities.”

It should be noted that the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on December 29 adopted the law on the Basics of Information Security and Protection of Infrastructures.
