U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt and EU Ambassador Jan Tombinski arrived in Kharkiv on Wednesday, where they plan to visit former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in Central Clinical Hospital No. 5, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"The ambassadors of the U.S. and the EU are already in Kharkiv. They plan to meet with Tymoshenko today," - EU mission in Kyiv claimed.

As reported, immediately after his arrival in Ukraine in August 2013, Pyatt announced his intention to visit the ex-premier in hospital.

He said he planned to visit her together with Tombinski after getting permission from the Ukrainian side.

As reported, Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2011 for abuse of office in a case widely seen as politically motivated. EU governments have linked her release to the signing of an association and free-trade agreement with Ukraine in Vilnius next month.

According to Radio Free Europe a European Parliament monitoring mission looking into Tymoshenko's case was extended until mid-November on October 15. EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele expressed hope that Tymoshenko would be allowed to receive medical treatment in Germany before the Vilnius summit.
