Turkish police arrests more than 40 officials suspected of espionage

A total of 57 arrest warrants have been issued.

44 government officials suspected of being linked to anti-government forces and possessing secret documents have been detained in an antiterrorist operation simultaneosly conducted by the Turkish police in 18 cities, reports Turkish Anadolu news agency .

The operation targeted the supporters of Fethullah Gülen, Tayyip Erdogan’s political opponent, who currently lives in self-imposed exile in the USA. His so-called ‘Gülen movement’ is accused of telephone tapping and engaging in terrorist activities aimed at installing a new government.
