The Official Gazette of the Turkish Government published "Procedural Agreement between the Republic of Turkey and the State of Israel for compensation", which means that the accords come into effect.
Under the agreement, Israel is to pay compensation for the Turkish families who have lost friends and relatives in the incident with ship "Mavi Marmara". The total amount of the lump sum compensation is USD 20 million and it will be paid later this month.
Turkey- Israel relations soured following the incident with the ship "Mavi Marmara." Then, in the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea, a group of Israeli soldiers intercepted a humanitarian convoy to the Gaza Strip and opened fire on the ship's crew. 8 Turkish citizens were killed and several dozen people injured.
June, 27 Israel made concessions to the Republic of Turkey fulfilling the conditions set in March 2013. Israel for the first time offered a formal apology to Turkey for the tragic accident with the "Mavi Marmara" ship.
