Former US President Barack Obama allowed the annexation of the Crimea by Russia. A corresponding statement was made during a press conference in Brussels today, July 12, by US President Donald Trump.
Trump said he was not satisfied with the situation that is currently taking place on the annexed peninsula.
“President Obama allowed that to happen. The Russians then built a bridge to Crimea, and a submarine port. That was on Barack Obama’s watch, that was not on Trump’s watch. I would not have allowed this if I was in this position. Would I have allowed it to happen? No. I would not have allowed it to happen."
QHA reported that the US will not cancel sanctions against Russia for the occupation of the Crimea until the peninsula is returned to Ukraine. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said that the US does not recognize the annexation of the Crimea.
Previously, the US and Russia failed to reach a compromise on the Crimea. Donald Trump's advisor John Bolton, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 1, discussed the annexation of the Crimea among the other topics.
