German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has suggested calling an emergency meeting of representatives of the EU Foreign Ministers to discuss the results of the presidential elections in the United States.
The German official believes that Trump's victory will have a strong influence on the US policy for Europe.
“Trump a lot criticized Europe in general and Germany in particular. I think we should proceed from the fact that foreign policy towards us will be much less predictable in the near future” Steinmeier said.
He noted that Europe was unpleasantly surprised by the winning of the Republican candidate.
“Election results are different from those that the majority of Germans would like to see, but, of course, we must respect these results.”
Meeting of the EU representatives and a discussion of future actions will be held November 13 in Brussels.
Previously QHA reported that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with the US ambassador to Ukraine and told his congratulations to the newly elected US president Donald Trump, expressing hope that the new administration, Senate and Congress will not change the course of supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
