The European Council President Donald Tusk held a telephone conversation with the newly elected 45th President of the United States Donald Trump, the high-ranking European official posted on Twitter.
According to Reuters exclusive sources, they discussed the military aggression of Russia and possibility to protect Ukraine. According to statements by the European press sources, Donald Tusk said that it is important to normalize the situation in Ukraine for preserving the transatlantic cooperation and, in particular, functioning NATO.
Reportedly, just before the conversation with Donald Trump, Tusk talked to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
Donald Tusk confirmed earlier on Twitter that he is forming his view of the situation in Ukraine according to objective state of affairs, recognizing the many statements made by the Russian authorities unreliable.
