The petition to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko have gathered 1079 signatures. The Crimeans demand to "use all the full powers of the Head of State, to seek support from the international community in order to stop the persecution of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov, as well as other Ukrainian citizens, repressed by the Russian authorities for their beliefs," Ilmi Umerov’s daughter Ayshe Umerova reported on Facebook.
Member of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars Zevdzhet Kurtumerov, who helped collect signatures, said the nearest days Ilmi Umerov will leave the mental hospital, but his criminal case will go on.
espite this, the address to the Head of the Ukrainian State retains relevance and significance, said Zevdzhet Kurtumero, adding that soon the petitiion will be handed over to the Presidential Administration. Ilmi Umerov’s defense expects to receive next week an answer to a request to transfer Umerov for treatment in cardiology department.
The criminal case against the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was launched at the request of the so-called Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crimea. The prosecution alleges that in March 2016, Umerov being in the territory of Ukraine, publicly called to "violate the territorial integrity of Russia" during his live interview with ATR TV Channel.
August 18, FSB officers - before the entry of the court decision into force - illegally transferred Umerov from the hospital to a psychiatric clinic, taking away vital medication and allowing him to see his family in a strictly specified time.
August, 21 the health state of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov has deteriorated sharply. He lost consciousness, presumably due to the aggravation of hypertensive crisis.
