The US will never recognize the annexation of the Crimea and will not remove sanctions from the Russian Federation until control over the peninsula is returned to Ukraine.
A corresponding statement was made by the US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch at the international forum "The Occupied Peninsula: Four Years of Resistance" today, February 26.
“The United States has not and will not forget Crimea. U.S. Secretary of State [Rex] Tillerson said in December: 'We will never accept Russia's occupation and attempted annexation of Crimea.' Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns full control of the peninsula to Ukraine,” the ambassador said.
Marie Yovanovitch expressed hope that the territorial integrity of Ukraine will be restored.
Reportedly, the US can impose sanctions against 13 more Russians. The possible introduction of restrictive measures is connected with the study of Russian interference in the presidential elections in the United States.
Earlier, Secretary of State of the United States of America Rex Tillerson said that the US sanctions are aimed at punishing Russia for the annexation of Crimea and interference in the situation in Ukraine
