KYIV (QHA) - All-Ukrainian Svoboda Association has submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that revises completely a state and the rights of the ethnic minorities in the country as well as allows to give the right to a citizen to indicate own ethnicity in the identification documents. Moreover, this law in draft stipulates to introduce the legal mechanism for functioning of self-government bodies of ethnic minorities. This allows, in turn, to legalize the Majlis of Crimean Tatar nation, NEWSMAX.COM.UA reported.
The Vice-Speaker of the Ukraine’s Parliament Ruslan Koshulihskyi, MPs Iryna Farion, Eduard Leonov and Bohdan Beniuk became as the authors of this bill. It is interesting fact, they propose to establish the historical or temporal principle to determine an ethnic minority: the starting point to recognize any ethnic minority in Ukraine is January 22, 1918 when the Ukrainian People’s Republic was declared.
