German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he wants Russia and the European Union to reapproach. According to him, many people believe that "Russia and the EU need to get closer."

I am also among these people. We must maintain a dialogue that should be respected and critically taken in order to reach decisions ... We must team up and find a way for cooperation on the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian and Syrian issue, German diplomat said during a lecture in the Ural Federal University on Monday.

According to Steinmeier also, there is no conflict between Russia and the West.

In an interview with the Stuttgarter Nachrichten Frank-Walter Steinmeier said it’s too early for the EU to lift the economic sanctions against Russia.
