On behalf of the President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed of a spot check of the Russian Armed Forces operational readiness. The Armed Forces are examined in the South, West and Central Military Districts, in the Northern Fleet, as well as in the General Headquarters of the Air Space and Airborne Forces.
“According to the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a regular spot check is initiated. In this regard, the troops of the Southern military district, some parts of the forces and means of the Western and Central military districts, the Northern Fleet, the General Headquarters of the Air Space Forces and the command of the Airborne Troops are in full alert starting from 7 a.m.", reads the report of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to Shoigu the Armed Forces will conduct a full cycle training during a combat readiness spot check. The troops will work out the defense the of the Russian Federation interests with an increase in security threat.
Reportedly, the readiness of the Southern Military District will be assessed in the course of the regrouping. Namely, the troops must be able to deploy self-sufficient groups of forces in a short time for containment of crisis situations.
Defense Ministry will examine the ability of the Western and Central military districts to scale up the efforts on the Southwest strategic direction.
Moreover, Shoigu set a task to carry out a full cycle of the immediate preparation of the Armed Forces "to protect the interests of the Russian Federation with an increase in security threat."
At the same time, the Southern Military District is actively preparing for strategic exercises "Caucasus-2016", according to Shoigu.
Virtually all of the major Black Sea Fleet forces will be involved in strategic exercises "Caucasus-2016". Rocket and anti-submarine ships, trawlers, large amphibious ships and naval auxiliary ships are being prepared to the exercises.
