Simferopol authorities refused the appeal, submitted by Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people to conduct Crimean Tatar Flag Day at Simferopol central Lenina square, and proposed to move it to Ak Mechet district of Simferopol, area of compact residence of Crimean Tatars.

The City Council referred the refuse to marathon, arranged by Crimea NGO “Russian community”, that reportedly to take place at Lenina square June 26.

“We inform you that executive committee of Simferopol City Council agreed to conduct the “Mordovia to Crimea” marathon on June 26 at Lenina square, following the appeal that had been submitted by NGO “Russian Community” on June 11, 2014.

In this regard, executive committee of Simferopol City Council cannot agree the conducting of Crimean Tatar Day Flag in central Lenina square in Simferopol and proposes to move the event to Ak Mechet district of Simferopol”- reads the statement of Simferopol City Council.

To recall, Mejlis have already submitted an appeal, to conduct the Crimean Tatar Flag Day, scheduled for June 26, in Trenyov Park, in Simferopol city center. Crimean authorities, however, did not approve the event.

Earlier Crimean Tatars were banned from conducting May 18 annual mourning meeting, that gathered dozens of thousands people, in Simferopol city center.
