Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu claims that there is a self-contained group of Russian troops in the occupied Crimea, RIA Krym reports.
“A self-contained group of forces has been deployed in Crimea. More than 4 million new and modernized weapons and military equipment has been supplied to the Southern Military District. Bastion and Ball alert coastal missile complexes, as well as Novorossiysk and Rostov-on-Don submarines took up duty,” Shoigu said at the Defense Ministry Board meeting.
The Minister also reported that "the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla received small missile ships, equipped with Caliber sea-based cruise missiles.
According to the Russian Minister, the "District troops were re-equipped with new combat aircrafts and anti-aircraft missile, as well as gun systems S-300V4, S-400, Buk-M2 and Carapace-C1 anti-aircraft gun complexes.
“As a result, the effectiveness of the air defense system in the South-West strategic direction has increased half as much again,” he said.
Shoigu went on to say that his department is currently working to increase the “Crimea’s combat potential," as well as to improve the system of logistics and training facilities in Crimea.
