Ukraine is planning to exchange Nadezhda Savchenko for Yevgeniy Yerofeyev and Alexander Aleksandrov, Russian servicemen held up in the Donetsk region, said Igor Plotnitsky, Head of the Lugansk People’s Republic, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Savchenko is charged with complicity in the murder of two Russian journalists in Donbass in the summer of 2014, as well as illegal crossing of the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Last week, Plotnitsky attended a court trial where Savchenko case was being heard.
“As far as I know, Savchenko’s lawyers believe she will be in Kiev by the end of the year after being exchanged for our servicemen Yerofeyev and Aleksandrov,” said Plotnitsky.
It was reported earlier that the two Russian nationals were detained in Donbass on May 16. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that Aleksandrov and Yerofeyev were on active duty in the Russian Armed Forces. Later on, Kiev's court ruled that the two were placed under arrest.
