On April 5, a sentence passed on Nadezhda Savchenko came into effect. The MP of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Deputy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison in the Russian Federation.
One of the lawyers of the Russian prisoner Nikolai Polozov wrote on Twitter:
- Nadiya Savchenko is going to resume a hunger strike as of 06.04. Sister’s and lawyers’ persuasions have been of no help.
Polozov showed Nadiya’s letter in which the Ukrainian bans to forcibly withdraw her from a dry hunger strike.
March, 22 the Donetsk City Court in Rostov Region fined Savchenko and sentenced her to 22 years in prison. The pilot prohibited her lawyers to lodge an appeal and said she would resume a hunger strike on the tenth day after the verdict comes into effect. March, 25 the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported that Nadiya Savchenko’s health condition deteriorated significantly.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said he was willing to exchange Savchenko for Russian commandos Yerofeyev and Alexandrov who had been detained in Eastern Ukraine.
GPU has launched criminal proceedings against Russian judges for sentencing Nadiya Savchenko.
