WASHINGTON (QHA) -

The US will not cancel sanctions against Russia for the occupation of the Crimea until the peninsula is returned to Ukraine. The White House press secretary Sarah Sanders made a corresponding statement during the briefing on July 2.

She stressed that the US does not recognize the annexation of the Crimea.

"We do not recognize Russia’s attempt to annex Crimea. We agree to disagree with Russia on that front. And the U.S. sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns Crimea to the Ukraine," the White House press service quotes Sanders.

QHA reported that the US and Russia have not reached a compromise in the Crimea issue. Donald Trump's advisor John Bolton, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the annexation of the Crimea.

Earlier, during the hearings in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress on May 23, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that his country will not forget about the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
