President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a telephone conversation with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, during which they discussed the situation of the occupied Donbas and annexed Crimea, the Presidential press service reports.
“They also discussed the situation in Donbas, and noted the importance of further coordination of efforts to continue the sanctions pressure on Russia, which should operate until Ukraine restore its sovereignty over the Donbas and Crimea,” reads the statement.
In addition, the sides discussed the progress achieved by Ukraine in the field of reforms, as well as the implementation of the EU requirements for introduction of visa-free regime.
“Martin Schulz confirmed that Ukraine has duly fulfilled all the necessary criteria for the introduction of the EU visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens. In this regard, he assured that he is making every effort to adopt a positive decision by the European Parliament in the near future,” the press-service reports.
On June 3, during a press conference the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said about the need to create the Crimean Tatar national autonomy in Crimea, and outlined the first steps of this project implementation.
