A Russian Army major, caught smuggling in weapons outside of Donetsk, has released a video appeal to the Russian President on July 25, 2015.
In it, he asked Putin to officially recognize him as a Russian Army officer and help him return to Russia.
“I’m a non-combat duty officer and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do in a situation like this. For 19 years I have been serving in the Russian Army and now they’re giving up on me, saying no person like that has ever been on their list of servicemen. But there are people I’ve served with, my commanding officers – either on active service or retired - whom I’m on good terms with and who can testify to that,” says Starkov.
Starkov also said that he did not go to Ukraine to kill somebody because Ukraine and Russia are not officially in a state of war.
“Please, acknowledge my official status and help me get back to Russia”, the major concludes.
