Russian Consul in Kyiv did not come to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, ignoring a meeting where he had to give explanations as to why Russia does not allow the Ukrainian Consul to visit the arrested Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko.

“We hope giving instructions to him will not be delayed, and tomorrow he will explain the non-admission of Ukrainian Consul,” wrote the speaker of the MFA of Ukraine Mariana Betsa on her Twitter-account.

On the eve, on Wednesday, Ukraine has repeatedly sent a note to the Russian Foreign Ministry to immediately give the Ukrainian Consul access to Roman Sushchenko, being kept in Lefortovo prison on charges of espionage.

Roman Sushchenko, a correspondent of the Ukrainian National Information Agency "Ukrinform" in France, was unlawfully detained in Moscow, where he arrived on personal business. The Russia’s FSB claimed that Sushchenko is a member of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

The Ukrinform news agency confirms that Sushchenko is their correspondent in France and considers his detention unlawful.
